About
Freya Wynn-Jones is a director, singer and animateur working across a wide range of professional, educational and community settings. With a particular interest in the relationship between theatre and vocal art, Freya works on numerous collaborations to write, compose and devise new work.



Forthcoming Projects
Covid-19
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Freya has cultivated new skills in making and delivering work through lockdown. Demonstrating her ability to adapt and innovate, these include devising docu-opera Walk Out Of Yourself with her ensemble Voicings Collective, crafting The Linden Tree for Streetwise Opera, running weekly zoom sessions and hosting an online zoom pantomime for The Choir With No Name, visiting people living with dementia in their gardens across Lewes to conceive of a new audiovisual work for Glyndebourne, remotely running devising workshops for year 5 and Mahogany Opera and hosting fifteen socially distanced doorstep and window gigs as part of The Advent Sessions. She has also been busy creating resources for opera houses to be used digitally and in the classroom including The Royal Opera House and Glyndebourne.

Raise Your Voice - Glyndebourne
Freya will be working alongside Raph Clarkson, Jane Haughton and Nancy Cooley to create and curate a new project for Glyndebourne and Raise Your Voice this year. Using her skills in creating docu-opera's and socially distanced work to conceive and deliver a project that is covid-safe for our participants living with a dementia in the Lewes villages.

Royal Opera House - Create and Sing Resources
Working alongside the Create and Sing Program Team to recraft and deliver hybrid and online learning models of the Carmen and Hansel and Gretel programs to schools across the country.

Snappy Opera Consultant Facilitator: Mahogany Opera
Freya will work alongside the Mahogany Opera team as they devise their newest Snappy Opera with primary school classes in Hull. Working alongside composer Raymond Yiu, librettist Russel Plows and artistic director Freddie Wake Walker to create this newest work for the Snappy Opera catalogue.

Filament Theatre - Ospedale Soprano
Working alongside Filament Theatre to record songs from their work Ospedale, commissioned by Great Ormond Street Hospital Arts team (Gosh Arts) to celebrate the opening of their new Sight and Sound centre of excellence, opening in the former Italian Hospital building on Queens Square. Delayed by the pandemic, this piece will now be shared as a digital offering in Spring 2020.

Aldeburgh Young Musicians Voicings Collective Residency
For a week over Easter, Freya and the Voicings Collective team will share their digital methods of devising with the Aldeburgh Young Musicians culminating in a collaboration and sharing.

Dartington Arts: Devising Choral Theatre in the Ensemble
This is the first of two short courses that Voicings Collective will lead at Dartington. Over two days we will explore approaches to devising music, text, character, and narrative. Gain an insight into our innovative approach to creating new work where any discipline can make the first move or take the lead.

Dartington Arts: Rehearsing Choral Theatre in The Ensemble
The second of two short courses that Voicings Collective will lead at Dartington, this two-day course interrogates methods of ensemble singing and staging to create dynamic works of choral theatre. Explore the value of the ensemble in crafting work for audiences and gain insight into the multifaceted way we can create ensemble work for the stage.

Mahogany Opera - Snappy Opera
Freya will be delivering Mahogany's Snappy Opera program in Laughton, Sussex. Snappies are ten minute operas commissioned for young people with the aim of introducing them to all the essential elements of the operatic process.

A session to equip emerging music leaders with an understanding of opera in an outreach context, and develop skills associated with successful delivery. Co-produced by Spitalfields and WNO.

Freya runs the Brighton branch of Choir With No Name, which opened in the summer of 2018. The choir is open to people who have experienced homelessness and other marginalised groups.
